The Lebanese government (GOL), through the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) and the Litani River Authority (LRA) has initiated steps toward the revitalization of southern Lebanon through a project financed by AFESD and KFAED. Of primary concern in this effort is the irrigation of 15,000 ha of agricultural land and the supply of water to 77 villages.

Conveyor 800, a 52-km main pipeline with 56-km of secondary pipelines, takes off downstream from the Qaraoun Dam and upstream from the Markabe Power Plant. It runs southward, east of the Litani River, to the southern international boundaries and supplies 12 agriculture areas of 15,000 ha with irrigation water (90 million m³) and 77 villages with domestic water (20 million m³).

In the rolling topography of the area, GIS with a mixture of IKONOS and KVR imageries were used to optimize the alignment/design of 2 tunnels, 2 open canals, and 57 km of pipelines. 7 secondary conveyors branch off the Main Conveyor to supply the 12 irrigation areas lying between 400 and 800 m of altitude.
